FINALLY, they are getting to the trial for the girl that was gang raped at a Richmond, CA High School Homecoming Dance

MARTINEZ (KRON) — Richmond Police Officer Jeff Whitson is testifying in the October 2009 gang rape of a 16-year-old outside a high school’s homecoming dance.

In court on Tuesday afternoon, Officer Whitson said that he transported one of the defendants, Manuel Ortega, a 20-year-old Richmond resident, to a booking facility the night of the incident.

In his testimony, Whitson said that while he took Ortega to the booking facility and while there, the defendant said “I didn’t rape her,” KRON 4’s Dan Kerman reported.

The officer said that Ortega told him “She was so drunk, she didn’t know what was going on.” Ortega then said “I wasn’t the only one, there was hella people” and “She wanted it. [Jane Doe] wanted it.”

Dan reports that in his testimony, the police officer said that Ortega was belligerent both while they were trying to handcuff him and getting DNA evidence from him. Whitson explained that they took a swab of DNA from his mouth and some pubic hair.

Whitson said that Ortega wasn’t cooperative. The officer also said that the defendant appeared to be intoxicated.

Earlier on Tuesday, Richmond police Officer Gary Lewis also testified. He said he arrested Manuel Ortega as he was fleeing from the school shortly after the victim was found unconscious under a picnic table.

As he was driving east on Rheem Avenue near 24th Street about a block from the school, he saw a man, later identified as Ortega, run in front of his patrol car, he said.

Lewis made a U-turn. When he turned off his lights, he saw Ortega come out from behind his car. When Ortega started running, Lewis said he chased him down.

“I grabbed him by the right shoulder and he immediately spun around and just started flailing his arms, throwing punches left and right,” Lewis said.

Lewis called for backup but was able to handcuff Ortega before other officers arrived.

During his arrest, Ortega allegedly said that the victim had wanted him to have sex with her, according to Lewis’ testimony.

Ortega appeared to be intoxicated and allegedly continued to shout statements and to threaten the officer. At one point, he allegedly said he had a knife and was going to stab all the officers, Lewis said.

At various points, Ortega also allegedly tried to bite, kick and head-butt Lewis, Lewis said.

Officers said they had to put Ortega in a wrap device to restrain him because he was so combative while they brought him back to the station, Lewis said.

Ortega was the only suspect arrested that night.

The other defendants in the case are San Pablo residents Cody Smith, 16, and Ari Morales, 17; Pinole resident Marcelles Peter, 18; and Richmond residents John Crane Jr., 43, Jose Montano, 19, and Elvis Torrentes, 22.

The three suspects who were juveniles at the time of the crime — Smith, Morales and Peter — have been charged as adults.

Richmond police officers Todd Kaiser and Gunnar Googins testified on Monday.

Health Care Reform, Financial Regulation and Reform, Economic Stimulus, College Lending Reform… And A Lot More… Thank Obama, Pelosi and The Democrats

Politicians have tried and failed for decades to enact universal health care. This time, they succeeded.  In 2008, Democrats won the presidency and both houses of Congress, and by the thinnest of margins, they rammed a bill through.  They weren’t going to get another opportunity for a very long time.  It cost them their majority, and it was worth it.

And that’s not counting financial regulation, economic stimulus, college lending reform, and all the other bills that became law under Pelosi.  So spare me the tears and gloating about her so-called failure.  If John Boehner is speaker of the House for the next 20 years, he’ll be lucky to match her achievements.

It’s funny, in a twisted way, to read all the post-election complaints that Democrats lost because they thought only of themselves.  Even the chief operating officer of the party’s leading think tank, the Center for American Progress, says Obama failed to convince Americans “that he knows their jobs are as important as his.”  That’s too bad, because Obama, Pelosi, and their congressional allies proved just the opposite.  They risked their jobs—and in many cases lost them—to pass the health care bill. The elections were a painful defeat, and you can argue that the bill was misguided.  But Democrats didn’t lose the most important battle of 2010. They won it.

Which means that American Citizens won.  Many of them are simply too busy listening to Limbaugh, Beck, etc. to realize it.

More Proof That The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is NOT for Small Businesses, but for Big Corporations

Don’t be fooled by the angry white right wing media machine.  So many people are, it’s amazing.

I like Obama.  In fact, the more the extreme right goes against him, the more I’m convinced that he is doing what’s best for us–because the extreme right is about the super wealthy and the corporations, not little people like me.  If they are this fired up about getting Obama out of office, he must be good.

Obama is not perfect but he is trying to do good things for the CITIZENS of this country.  The Citizens United decision, Fox News and The Chamber of Commerce are so bent on getting the Black Man out of the White House that they are pulling out all the stops–and the cash–to do it.

“The warmth drains out of Donohue’s voice entirely when he talks about Obama. The chamber supported the President’s $787 billion stimulus package. But Donohue took it personally when the Administration banned lobbyists in the White House. “I think what we do is highly honorable,” he says.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg.  Read the whole Bloomberg Business Week article here.
