I’m somewhat surprised, but I have to admit that I am in favor of Arizona’s SB 1070.
As a result of, among other things, the Mexican drug cartels infiltration into Arizona there has been (of course) drug trafficking, kidnapping (Phoenix is second in the world only to Mexico City), torture, murder (including law enforcement officers) extortion and the list goes on.
Mexico is essentially a lawless land and they are coming into our country and dragging it down. In many ways.
Even if you go to the “pro immigration/pro migrant” site at ImmigrationClearingHouse.com I find their “arguments” pathetic and weak:
Synopsis:
Requires officials and agencies of the state and political subdivisions to fully comply with and assist in the enforcement of federal immigration laws and gives county attorneys subpoena power in certain investigations of employers. Establishes crimes involving trespassing by illegal aliens, stopping to hire or soliciting work under specified circumstances, and transporting, harboring or concealing unlawful aliens, and their respective penalties.
Uhhhh…. excuse me, but what is the matter with that? If you want to be in our country you have to abide by our rules AND you should learn to speak English.
Oh, and you get prosecuted for murder and kidnapping, etc.
If you don’t like our country’s laws and rules, GO HOME.

First of all the smug tone really detracts from your arguments, including the high school “Uhh excuse me!” affect. Do you really believe what you are writing or are you just trying to sell blogs? Oh I forget they don’t make money.
Per usual your point is that there is nothing wrong with the law as long as everyone on the up and up, and just speaks English.
Among the many things this try hard to be quirky and snarky post fails to address AT ALL, is what such a law will do when law enforcement officials zealously, gleefully try to enforce it. Like psychotherapy, persons with questionable motives for become law-enforcement will see this as open season. As someone who was born here, who has contributed to life in America positively and written a book, in your beloved English, I could be physically assaulted just on the basis of what I’m wearing or because I’m Hispanic and tan well. That you fail to see anything wrong with this marks the end of me reading your blog.
The world is not wholly white anymore. There are more colors, there are more languages and there isn’t a damn thing anybody can do about it now. Evolve.
And as for your siren call to English, you don’t write in your own language well enough to convince me of it’s superiority or that it should exclusively rule in this, ever increasingly, diverse country.
I did not say that English was a superior language, nor did I say that Americans are superior in any way shape or form. I did say that after researching the situation I can see why they are implementing such a law.
By the way, speaking English doesn’t have anything to do with the law, but having to translate everything into Spanish costs tax payer dollars to benefit those that aren’t tax payers — and are often here illegally, costing even more tax payer dollars.
Oh ok. You don’t travel much. Most of the worlds signs are in several languages. Costs of making signs is that what your point is? That’s pennies. Maybe a few languages on signs might accidentally teach you a word or two in another language. You might accidentally learn something.
In a few decades those that are brown, yellow and black will be the majority in this country and deciding what to spend taxpayer money on and you’ll want to be included in being the recipient of that I think. So better think of them now. So short-sighted.
In fact, you’ve probably already benefited from some undocumented worker here illegally, some maid for Maids Are Us, or something, and yet paying taxes into a system that benefits YOU, yes YOU.
Undocumented workers here paying taxes is just as big a phenomenon as undocumented workers here using resources, but you left that out of your thinking didn’t you.
My point is that Arizona has a real problem on their hands and they have to do something about it.
I am betting that you are not a gun-toting, drug-smuggling, human-trafficking, kidnapper or murderer. And neither are the many Latinos that I know and love.
But in Arizona they apparently have real problem that needs to be dealt with in a way that will yield them results.
Hmmm, Arguments that are pathetic and weak? Not really. IC is a nationally recognized source of information for the pro reform movement.
SB-1070 is misguided, unconstitutional, violating the 4th and possibly the 5th amendment as it is written and is nothing more than political pandering by a weak Governor facing a tight re-election campaign.
It is doubtful this law will ever go into effect, and if so, it will be years.
The economic impact will be enormous to Arizona, that you can be assured.
“political pandering by a weak Governor facing a tight re-election campaign”?
Sounds to me like you are saying that the taxpayers and voters in Arizona want to see stronger laws in place so the Governor is acting in such a way that they will respond favorably to this.
“Former mayor Rudolph Giuliani sued all the way up to the Supreme Court to defend the city’s sanctuary policy against a 1996 federal law decreeing that cities could not prohibit their employees from cooperating with the INS. Oh yeah? said Giuliani; just watch me. The INS, he claimed, with what turned out to be grotesque irony, only aims to “terrorize people.” Though he lost in court, he remained defiant to the end. On September 5, 2001, his handpicked charter-revision committee ruled that New York could still require that its employees keep immigration information confidential to preserve trust between immigrants and government. Six days later, several visa-overstayers participated in the most devastating attack on the city and the country in history.”
Hello!!!!!
All the people that for one reason or another oppose this new law………..
Why don’t yall try reading the law??????????
Yall are all talking about mexican, lations blah, blah, blah!
No where in the bill does it say anything about RACE or national origin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It talks about ILLEGAL IMMAGRATION!!! And just to let yall know there are MANY Illegal immagrants that are White (caucasion)
So do yourself a favor and READ SB1070 before you start running your mouths/keyboards!!!!
Try being INFORMED rather than just OPINIONATED!!!! It gives you much more credibility!
All it really says it that the state has to adhere to and uphold existing federal laws. Too many states have “sanctuary” laws that allow illegal immigrants amnesty and a free ride.
Hence, we now have the problems that we have.
You wouldn’t just let anyone and/or everyone into your home and that’s essentially what we are doing.
why isn’t it a good idea to have ILLEGAL immigration banned? It’s illegal for a a reason. I think something should be done to enforce this, and if this new law attempts to do that, then thank you. If nothing was out there to enforce it then why have it be illegal to just come to the US and live here without citizenship?
I agree that there are far too many illegal immigrants in this country. I am far from being white but I see that there is a need for this law and I hope other states will join Arizona.
Immigrants this is not Juarez mexico …go fight for rights in your own country…. if america accepts demands from this bunch there wont be a United States any more! this is US and they should be a law making people remember that . there are immigrants here just to have babies … we the tax payer suffer … look around there is one illegal person on every corner. IM pro sb1070… go fight somewhere else and for those kids who walked to the white house keep on walking all the way to your country! If George Washington were alive he would start building a big fat wall at the border.
you all B***** with all your dumb bull**** , are helluh races! without us there would not be no houses up!! we latinos would be the end of the world for all the WHITE B*************!
Your writing and grammar skills could use some brushing up.
And, for the record, I’m not racist. Come here legally, or don’t come here.
Latinos are NOT the only people that come here illegally, so you are feeling much too sorry for yourself.
Just for everybody’s information:
The bill SB 1070 is going to deal with illegal immigration. Yes. I agree with you that that’s what it says. But the truth is that the person who wrote it, Russell Pearce, just wrote it with fancy words so that the bill wouldn’t sound racist in any way, shape, or form. But you should also read other articles that he writes, opinions that Jan Brewer gives, and other writings of the sort that prove to you that they are just being racist. The don’t say illegal immigrants. They refer to them as Mexicans. You don’t have to take a side to know that this bill is just being racist. You must also realize that when these people use fake ID’s and fake Social Security numbers, they are also registered workers and they MUST pay taxes. A mayority of illegal aliens pay taxes, help with the economy, and will not get the benefit of receiving social security when they get old. And also with this “taking citizens jobs away,” this is also not true because, tell me, are you going to be willing to go outside in the summer and work in landscaping, construction, house cleaning, office cleaning, hotel cleaning? I don’t think so. These people take whatever job they can find and those jobs are jobs that legal citizens don’t want to take. As a legal citizen you want a good job that’s going to pay you well and you can get almost any job you want because you have the opportunity to go to school and secure a better future. You wouldn’t want to work in the fields if you know how to read and write, solve problems, use a computer. So these people are truthfully not doing any harm to anybody. Yes, there are criminals, drug addicts, law breakers, but those people don’t make up for all Hispanics in Arizona. Besides, there are also Caucasians, African Americans, and other people who also commits crimes. They murder, torture, kidnap, and its okay because they’re not Hispanic. How come you don’t hear about those people in the news? They always tend to go after the minorities and why could that be? Caucasians and African Americans know how to read and write in English but that doesn’t mean that they don’t break laws.
Also, things don’t always seem to be what you hear. All this blabbering Jan Brewer does about how Mexicans this and illegals that, is sad because she’s sort letting you know she doesn’t really know what’s going on in her state. Does she know that according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety although there has been an increase in the Hispanic population (not declaring whether legal or illegal), Hispanic arrest rates have declined overall other ethnic groups combined. The crime rates have decreased by 18% unlike non-Hispanics which was only by 4%. Not to mention, drug abuse in Hispanics has gone down by 30%, while Caucasian drug abuse has gone up 47%. And this is all coming from the Department of Public Safety. Either Jan Brewer is wrong and just saying things because she has a mouth or the Department of Public Safety has to get their numbers straight.
It’s not fair that some people don’t bother researching things for themselves to find the real facts instead of basing their opinions on what other people say.
One more thing, there is no need to be rude about what other people think. Foul language doesn’t make people change their minds on how they think. Each person has their own opinion so you should let them speak because that way we can learn and rethink our ideas or reinforce them.
Just wonder if the attorney in constitutional law, who posted earlier, could please list the points in SB 1070 that make it unconstitutional, violating the 4th and 5th amendments. I’m not sure, but I don’t think the courts have even determined constitutionality yet.
Casper, Casper, that’s no way to make friends and influence people.
Anybody here for NAFTA and open borders and free flow across the border? Of course they would all be coming here and no one going there, well, except for the South Americans coming across the southern Mexican border. Oh, wait, Mexico’s immigration laws forbid that. I wonder why we don’t adopt Mexico’s immigration laws, then we would all be uniform in our understanding of borders and when not to cross them. I guess Mexico has more sovereignty than the US. Hmmmm… maybe that’s why they come here, so they can destroy what sovereignty we have left.
casper loco needs to shut up because we didnt have your kind here when we started america so shut the h*** up!!! you racist piece of meheecan c*** we can do this all by ourselves so get out of MY COUNTRY B****!!!! because we would be better off without ILLEGALS here! Yet my lawn has never been better and my strawberrys never fresher. we would be fine without you so thats why were trying to ban ILLEGAL immigration b****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Casper loco go kill yourself you are a fucking retard, you are the reason we don’t like mexicans… Did you not learn how to spell simple words? Was the free education we gave to you not good enough? Or did your stupid brown ass just drop out like the rest of them.
You stupid fuck
